Salangai Poojai is the first staging performance by students who had learned all the basic adavus/steps and basic songs. Essentiallty, for a student to do salangai poojai it will take 3 to 4 years. It depends on the student performing. During Salangai Poojai, Prayers will be done by placing the students new costumes, Ornaments, Salangai in front of Lord Natarajar to get blessings. The Slanagai are tried to dancers ankle and live performance is done for the first time on the stage in front of God, Parents and audience. Once Salangai Poojai is completed. The dancers exit from beginners level and will be proceed to advance level to prepare themselves for arengetram.
This first performance follows years of training and many Indian classical dance forms perform an arangetram once the time has come for a disciple. Literally means climbing the stage or reaching. It refers to the graduation ceremony where the guru presents his or her pupil to the public. Which marks the pathway for a dancer to then perform alone or be able to give training to other dancers. Once a dancer has completed training they should have an understanding of classical music and the many aspects of dancing.
